George Reeves was an American actor best known for his iconic portrayal of Superman in the 1950s television series 'Adventures of Superman'. Born George Keefer Brewer, he began his career in the late 1930s, landing a notable supporting role as Stuart Tarleton in the classic film 'Gone with the Wind' (1939). Throughout the 1940s, he appeared in various B-movies and studio productions, though he struggled to break into major leading roles until his casting as the Man of Steel. His career reached its zenith with the success of 'Adventures of Superman', which made him a household name and a hero to a generation of children. Despite the show's popularity, Reeves found himself typecast and struggled to find work outside of the Superman persona. His legacy endures as the definitive Superman of the early television era.
