A Certain Magical Index

Set in Academy City, a technologically advanced metropolis where students study the curriculum of esper powers, the story follows Touma Kamijou, a high school student whose right hand—the Imagine Breaker—has the unique ability to negate any supernatural power, magic, or divine intervention, but also unfortunately nullifies his own luck. His mundane, unlucky life is upended when he encounters Index, a young nun from the Church of England whose mind holds 103,000 forbidden magical grimoires. As Touma is thrust into the hidden conflict between the scientific side of Academy City and the magical side of the occult world, he must use his wits and his anti-power right hand to protect Index and others from various rogue espers and powerful magicians. Along the way, he crosses paths with high-ranking Level 5 esper Mikoto Misaka and an array of dangerous factions, unraveling a sprawling conspiracy that threatens both science and religion.
