Set during the Joseon era when prohibition laws are at their strictest, 'A Tale of Ylang Ylang' (internationally known as 'When Flowers Bloom, I Think of the Moon') follows the lives of four young people whose paths intertwine. Nam-young is an ambitious inspector from a noble family who upholds the law with strict righteousness, while Kang Ro-seo is a struggling aristocrat who begins brewing illegal alcohol to save her family from poverty. Alongside the Crown Prince Yi Pyo, who frequently sneaks out of the palace for a drink, and Han Ae-jin, a noblewoman with a rebellious spirit, they navigate the dangerous underworld of illicit spirits and royal conspiracies. As the trio of bootleggers and the principled inspector collide, a forbidden romance blossoms amidst high-stakes political intrigue. The narrative explores themes of duty versus desire, societal class divides, and the human cost of oppressive laws. Together, they must uncover deeper corruption within the royal court while trying to keep their dangerous secrets hidden from the law.
