All Creatures Great and Small

Set in the late 1930s, the series follows the life of James Herriot, a young veterinarian who leaves his home in Glasgow to take a job in the rural Yorkshire Dales. Upon arriving at Skeldale House, he finds himself working for the eccentric and demanding Siegfried Farnon, alongside Siegfried's mischievous younger brother, Tristan, and the sharp-witted housekeeper, Mrs. Hall. The series chronicles James's professional challenges as he navigates the complexities of treating farm animals and pets while earning the trust of the local farming community. Beyond the medical cases, the show explores the personal growth of its characters as they navigate love, friendship, and the looming shadow of World War II. James finds himself drawn to local farmer's daughter Helen Alderson, while the household at Skeldale struggles to maintain its sense of normalcy and community amidst the changing social landscape of rural England. It is a gentle, character-driven drama that celebrates the bond between humans and animals, as well as the resilience of the human spirit.
