Set in the coastal town of Kosode in Kuji, Iwate Prefecture, the story follows Aki Amano, a shy and introverted high school girl from Tokyo who visits her mother's hometown during the summer. Inspired by her grandmother, a legendary 'ama' (traditional female diver), Aki decides to become a diver herself. As she embraces the local culture and overcomes her insecurities, she discovers a newfound confidence that eventually leads her on an unexpected path toward stardom in the Japanese idol industry. The series masterfully balances the nostalgic, rustic charm of rural life with the fast-paced, often cynical world of show business. As Aki navigates the complexities of fame, friendship, and family secrets, she must reconcile her identity as a local diver with her rising status as a national idol. The drama is celebrated for its witty script, memorable soundtrack, and its poignant portrayal of the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami's impact on the local community.
