American Crime is an anthology drama series that explores the complexities of the American justice system and the human condition. Each season features a self-contained story with a new setting, new characters, and a different social issue, while utilizing a recurring ensemble cast to portray vastly different roles. The series is noted for its unflinching, gritty, and realistic approach to storytelling, often focusing on the intersection of race, class, gender, and politics. From the investigation of a home invasion in Modesto, California, to the aftermath of a high school sexual assault and the exploitation of undocumented workers, the show delves deep into the moral ambiguity of its characters. By stripping away the typical procedural tropes, American Crime examines how individual lives are shattered by systemic failures, personal prejudices, and the difficult choices made under extreme pressure.
