Animal Kingdom follows 17-year-old Joshua 'J' Cody, who moves in with his estranged relatives, the Codys, a criminal family clan governed by the matriarch Janine 'Smurf' Cody. Based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name, the series explores the complex, often volatile dynamics of this Southern California crime family as they navigate high-stakes heists, internal power struggles, and the constant threat of law enforcement. As J becomes increasingly entrenched in the family's dangerous lifestyle, he must learn to survive the manipulative influence of Smurf and the volatile personalities of her sons: Pope, the intense and unstable eldest; Craig, the reckless adrenaline junkie; and Deran, the youngest who struggles to find his own identity. The series is a gritty exploration of loyalty, betrayal, and the corrupting nature of power, as the family fights to maintain their empire while their secrets threaten to tear them apart.
