Aoi Honoo

Set in the early 1980s at Osaka University of Arts, 'Aoi Honoo' follows Moyuru Hobo, an ambitious and eccentric first-year college student with aspirations of becoming a professional manga artist and anime director. Alongside his eccentric peers—many of whom go on to found the legendary anime studio Gainax—Moyuru battles intense self-doubt, creative jealousy, and rivals like the brilliant Hiroyuki Yamaga. Driven by a mix of burning passion, wild delusions, and endless procrastination, Moyuru struggles to create work that can rival the masterpieces of his idols like Rumiko Takahashi and Osamu Tezuka. The series blends comedy, drama, and pop-culture nostalgia to paint a vivid picture of the anxieties and triumphs of youth in the golden age of otaku culture.
