Arrested Development

Arrested Development follows Michael Bluth, a level-headed widower who is forced to keep his dysfunctional, formerly wealthy family afloat after his corrupt father, George Bluth Sr., is imprisoned for white-collar crimes. As Michael tries to do the right thing for his teenage son, George-Michael, he is constantly thwarted by his absurd, narcissistic, and out-of-touch relatives, including his mother Lucille, his self-deluded siblings Gob, Lindsay, and Buster, and his brother-in-law Tobias. Utilizing a mockumentary style complete with hand-held cameras, voiceover narration, archival photos, and running gags, the series explores themes of wealth, corporate corruption, and the inescapable bonds of family. Over the course of its run—which transitioned from Fox to a later revival on Netflix—the show became a critical darling and a cult classic known for its intricate, layered writing, foreshadowing, and callbacks. The core conflict revolves around Michael's continuous struggle to distance himself from his toxic family obligations while repeatedly being pulled back in to save them from themselves, culminating in various business failures, legal troubles, and bizarre romantic entanglements.
