bakekang

"Bakekang" is a landmark Philippine television drama series that originally aired on GMA Network. The story revolves around Jacoba "Bakekang" Maisog, an ostracized woman who is physically unattractive, uneducated, and impoverished. Despite facing relentless ridicule, abuse, and abandonment by the people around her—including her own mother—Bakekang remains fiercely resilient. She endures immense hardship to raise her two daughters, Kristal and Deborah, whom she wishes to give a better life, hoping they will achieve the beauty and success she was denied. As the daughters grow up, the narrative explores deeply emotional themes of maternal sacrifice, sibling rivalry, and the pursuit of dreams. Deborah grows up bitter and ashamed of her roots, while Kristal inherits her mother's kind heart and eventually rises to fame as a popular singer. The series tracks Bakekang's agonizing yet triumphant journey as she navigates betrayal, vindication, and the ultimate test of unconditional love, leaving an indelible mark on Philippine pop culture and daytime television melodrama.
