Bakemonogatari follows Koyomi Araragi, a third-year high school student who survived a vampire attack and is left with lingering supernatural traits. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjougahara—known for being aggressively unsocial—literally falls into his arms and reveals a shocking secret: she weighs almost nothing, due to a mysterious encounter with a crab apparition. Koyomi introduces her to Meme Oshino, a strange middle-aged man living in an abandoned building who specializes in oddities. Throughout the series, Koyomi encounters several other young women suffering from different supernatural afflictions tied to their inner emotional traumas and personal demons. From Mayoi Hachikuji, a lost ghost child, to Suruga Kanbaru, a basketball star cursed by a monkey's paw, Koyomi resolves their supernatural crises while discovering more about his own dark past. Written by NISIOISIN, the series is renowned for its unconventional narrative structure, heavily stylized visual direction by Studio Shaft, and extensive, rapid-fire dialogue.
