Basketball

Set against the turbulent backdrop of the Japanese colonial era and the subsequent division of the Korean Peninsula, 'Basketball' tells the gripping tale of young men who find hope, camaraderie, and national pride through the sport of basketball. The series follows Kang San, a young man from the lowest social stratum who rises from the slums of Gyeongseong to become a star player on the unified Korean basketball team. Along the way, he navigates fierce athletic rivalries, complex political ideologies, and a poignant romance with Choi Shin-young, an educated woman from an elite background. As historical events unfold—ranging from liberation from Japanese rule to the ideological conflicts leading up to the Korean War—the characters are forced to make harrowing choices. Basketball serves not only as a game of skill and endurance, but as a powerful metaphor for a fractured nation striving for unity and freedom. Through intense matches and deeply personal struggles, the series captures the resilience of youth facing impossible odds in a changing world.
