Bayside Detectives

Bayside Detectives follows the life of Shunsaku Aoshima, a former salaryman who decides to quit his corporate job to join the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department. Assigned to the Wangan Police Station in the newly developed waterfront area of Tokyo, Aoshima quickly discovers that the reality of police work is far from the glamorous, high-octane action depicted in television dramas. Instead, he finds himself mired in bureaucratic red tape, internal politics, and the mundane frustrations of a precinct that is often treated as a dumping ground for unwanted officers. As Aoshima navigates the complexities of the Wangan precinct, he forms an unlikely bond with his colleagues, including the ambitious and by-the-book Sumire Onda and the elite, detached career officer Shinji Muroi. Together, they tackle a variety of cases ranging from petty crimes to complex criminal conspiracies, all while challenging the rigid hierarchy of the Japanese police force. The series is celebrated for its satirical take on corporate culture, its grounded character development, and its unique blend of comedy and procedural drama.
