Set twenty years before the events of Robert Louis Stevenson's classic novel 'Treasure Island', Black Sails follows the adventures of Captain Flint and his crew during the Golden Age of Piracy. As the British Empire returns to the Caribbean to reclaim its lost territories, Flint and his men fight for the survival of New Providence Island, a lawless pirate haven. The series explores the complex political landscape of the era, where pirates, colonial powers, and local merchants navigate a web of betrayal, greed, and shifting alliances. At the heart of the conflict is the hunt for the Urca de Lima, a Spanish treasure galleon whose gold could secure the future of the island. As Flint battles his own internal demons and the encroaching threat of civilization, he forms an uneasy partnership with Eleanor Guthrie, the daughter of the island's most powerful fence. The show is noted for its gritty realism, intricate character development, and its subversion of traditional pirate tropes, ultimately serving as a prequel that bridges the gap between historical fiction and literary legend.
