Bo' Selecta!

Bo' Selecta! is a British sketch comedy television series created by Leigh Francis and broadcast on Channel 4. The show is famous for its surreal, crude humor and its use of large, exaggerated foam and latex masks worn by Francis to parody various celebrities, musicians, and television personalities. Central recurring characters such as Avid Merrion, an obsessed stalker desperately trying to meet his idols, became massive pop culture phenomena in the UK during the early 2000s. The series thrives on catchphrases, awkward interludes, and running gags involving absurdly caricatured versions of stars like Craig David, Michael Jackson, Mel B, and Trisha Goddard. While celebrated for its anarchic energy and instant impact on British playground culture, the show's heavy reliance on physical caricature and blackface/racial stereotyping has also made it a subject of significant retrospective controversy and criticism in later years, leading Leigh Francis to issue public apologies.
