Breaking Away

Based on the 1979 Academy Award-winning film of the same name, the series follows the lives of four working-class teenagers—known as 'Cutters'—living in Bloomington, Indiana. Having recently graduated from high school, Dave, Cyril, Moocher, and Mike navigate the transition into adulthood while dealing with the social divide between themselves and the wealthy students attending Indiana University. The series captures the tension of small-town life, the struggle for identity, and the camaraderie of the group as they find solace and ambition in competitive bicycle racing. Central to the narrative is Dave Stohler, a cycling enthusiast obsessed with Italian culture and professional racing. As the group faces the realities of limited economic prospects and local prejudices, they find themselves constantly at odds with the college students who look down upon them. The show explores themes of class conflict, friendship, and the pursuit of dreams, culminating in the high-stakes 'Little 500' bicycle race, which serves as the ultimate test of their grit and determination.
