Set in Lyon, France, "Chérif" follows the quirky and brilliant police captain Kader Chérif, a man deeply obsessed with classic American and international television detective shows. Using the unorthodox methods and tropes he learns from decades of binge-watching TV, Chérif solves complex murder cases with an impressive track record. He is initially paired with the strict, by-the-book Captain Adeline Briard, who was transferred from Paris. Together, their contrasting investigative styles create a compelling dynamic that eventually evolves into deep professional respect and romantic tension. Over the course of six seasons, the series balances procedural crime investigations with character-driven drama, exploring Chérif's personal life, his relationship with his ex-wife and their daughter, and his evolving partnership with Briard. The show pays affectionate homage to television history while grounding its narrative in the vibrant cultural backdrop of Lyon.
