Children of Heaven

"Children of Heaven" is a heartwarming and poignant drama that follows Ali, a young boy living in a poor neighborhood in Tehran, who accidentally loses his younger sister Zahra's only pair of shoes. Unable to afford a new pair and fearing the wrath of their struggling parents—their father is deeply in debt and their mother is in poor health—the siblings hatch a secret plan. They decide to share Ali's worn-out sneakers, with Zahra wearing them for the morning school shift and sprinting back so Ali can wear them for the afternoon shift. The narrative builds tension as the two children navigate the daily perils of lateness, exhausted running, and near-misses with their teachers, all while keeping their predicament hidden from their parents. The emotional core of the film deepens when Ali learns about an upcoming long-distance running race where the third-place prize is a brand new pair of sneakers. Determined to win them for his sister, Ali enters the race, leading to a breathless and emotionally resonant climax that celebrates resilience, sibling love, and the innocence of childhood amidst hardship.
