Columbo

Columbo is a groundbreaking American crime drama series that redefined the detective genre by utilizing an 'inverted detective story' format. Instead of a traditional whodunit, each episode begins by showing the crime being committed and the perpetrator's identity. The narrative tension then shifts to the cat-and-mouse game between the brilliant, unassuming, and disheveled Lieutenant Columbo and the arrogant, high-status murderer who believes they have committed the perfect crime. Lieutenant Columbo, portrayed by Peter Falk, uses his deceptively bumbling demeanor, rumpled trench coat, and constant references to his unseen wife to lower the suspects' guard. By feigning confusion and asking seemingly trivial questions, he meticulously uncovers the inconsistencies in the culprit's alibi. The series is celebrated for its clever writing, iconic guest stars, and the psychological depth of its central character, who remains one of television's most enduring and beloved investigators.
