Czterdziestolatek is a classic Polish television comedy-drama series that follows the life of Stefan Karwowski, a civil engineer living in Warsaw during the 1970s. As he reaches the milestone age of forty, Karwowski navigates the absurdities of everyday life, professional career advancements tied to massive state infrastructure projects like the Warsaw Transit Route, and the typical domestic struggles of a middle-class family. Alongside his practical wife Magda and their children, Stefan frequently finds himself in humorous yet relatable predicaments. The series brilliantly captures the socio-economic realities and spirit of the Polish People's Republic through a satirical yet affectionate lens. Karwowski's ambitions, encounters with eccentric acquaintances—most notably the ambitious construction worker known as 'Maliniak'—and his constant mid-life crises reflect a universal experience of aging, set against a uniquely historical Eastern European backdrop.
