Defiance

Set in the near future, 'Defiance' follows a diverse group of people attempting to co-exist in a newly terraformed world on Earth, which has been radically transformed by the arrival of seven alien races known collectively as the Votan. The series is set in the bustling frontier boomtown of Defiance, which is built on the ruins of St. Louis. Amidst political intrigue, cultural clashes, and ancient rivalries, former marine Nolan and his adopted Votan daughter Irisa navigate the dangerous sociopolitical landscape of the town as it strives for peace. The fragile harmony of Defiance is constantly threatened by external corporate conglomerates like the Earth Republic, the remnants of the Earth Militia, and criminal elements within the town itself. Key power players include the wealthy and ambitious Tarr family—Datak, Stahma, and their son Alak—who represent the complex Castithan alien culture, and Amanda Rosewater, the idealistic mayor trying to hold the community together. As deep-seated secrets and mysterious alien artifacts come to light, the residents must unite or perish against existential threats.
