Digging for Britain

Hosted by Professor Alice Roberts, 'Digging for Britain' is a captivating television documentary series that follows archaeological excavations across the United Kingdom. Throughout each season, the show tracks community digs, rescue archaeology, and major academic excavations as they unfold in real-time. From prehistoric monuments and Roman villas to Anglo-Saxon burials and industrial-era settlements, the series provides a front-row seat to discoveries that rewrite our understanding of British history. The core conflict of the series is a race against time and the elements, as archaeologists, volunteers, and specialists work tirelessly to uncover, record, and preserve artifacts before they are lost to erosion, development, or decay. Alice Roberts guides viewers through the science and storytelling of each site, interviewing leading experts, examining newly found treasures, and shedding light on the everyday lives of the people who inhabited the British Isles millennia ago.
