Dixon of Dock Green

Dixon of Dock Green is a classic British television police procedural series created by Ted Willis that ran on the BBC from 1955 to 1976. The series follows the warm, wise, and approachable veteran police constable George Dixon, stationed at the fictional Dock Green police station in the East End of London. Unlike grittier modern crime dramas, the show focused on community policing, humane interactions, and moral guidance, presenting a reassuring view of law enforcement where common sense and a quiet word often resolved conflicts just as effectively as arrests. Over its remarkable 22-year run, the show evolved alongside British society, tackling changing social issues while maintaining its core focus on the beat officers, detectives, and everyday citizens of Dock Green. Jack Warner immortalized the titular role of P.C. George Dixon, becoming a beloved cultural icon whose opening catchphrase, 'Evenin', all,' and closing address to the audience became etched into British television history.
