Documentary Now!

Documentary Now! is a critically acclaimed American mockumentary television series created by Fred Armisen, Bill Hader, Seth Meyers, and Rhys Thomas. Each episode serves as a standalone parody of a specific, iconic documentary film or style, meticulously recreating the visual aesthetics, tone, and narrative tropes of the source material. The series is hosted by Helen Mirren, who introduces each installment with a dry, deadpan delivery that frames the absurdity of the parodies as serious cinematic achievements. The show is celebrated for its incredible attention to detail, ranging from the gritty, handheld camera work of direct cinema to the polished, high-budget production values of nature documentaries and music biographies. By casting Armisen and Hader in a rotating array of eccentric roles, the series explores the thin line between profound human interest stories and the ridiculous, offering a loving yet biting satire of the documentary genre's most common conventions.
