The series follows June Colburn, an optimistic and naive Midwestern girl who moves to New York City for her dream job, only to find her company has been shut down due to a massive fraud scandal. Left homeless and broke, she answers an ad for a roommate and moves in with Chloe, a manipulative, hard-partying, and morally bankrupt socialite who makes a living by scamming her roommates out of their security deposits. Despite their polar opposite personalities, the two form an unlikely and dysfunctional friendship. Chloe takes June under her wing, teaching her how to navigate the cynical, cutthroat world of Manhattan, while June attempts to bring a sense of morality and structure to Chloe's chaotic life. The show is known for its sharp, satirical take on New York City life and features James Van Der Beek, playing a fictionalized, self-deprecating version of himself as Chloe's best friend.
