The story begins on November 22, 2010, when ten missiles strike Japan, causing no casualties but leaving the nation in a state of confusion. Three months later, Saki Morimi, a young Japanese woman on a graduation trip to the United States, finds herself in trouble in front of the White House. She is saved by a mysterious, amnesiac young man who calls himself Akira Takizawa. Takizawa is completely naked, carrying only a handgun and a high-tech mobile phone that displays a balance of 8.2 billion yen in digital currency. As Saki and Takizawa return to Japan, they discover that Takizawa is one of twelve 'Seleçao'—individuals chosen by a mysterious entity known as Mr. Outside. Each Seleçao is given ten billion yen to 'save' Japan in whatever way they see fit. However, if they run out of money or fail to act, they are eliminated by a mysterious assassin known as the Supporter. The series follows Takizawa as he attempts to recover his lost memories and uncover the truth behind the 'Careless Monday' missile attack, all while navigating a deadly game of political intrigue and social responsibility.
