Empress Myeongseong

Empress Myeongseong is a sweeping historical drama that chronicles the life of Empress Myeongseong, the first official wife of Emperor Gojong of the Korean Empire. Set during the late 19th century, the series portrays her extraordinary rise from a young orphan of noble birth to a formidable political strategist who fiercely defended Joseon's sovereignty against the imperialist ambitions of Japan, Russia, and other foreign powers. As the Qing Dynasty wanes and Japan's influence grows, the Empress navigates treacherous court politics, fierce factional rivalries, and the traditional constraints placed upon women of her era. Her unwavering devotion to modernizing the nation and maintaining independence ultimately makes her a target, leading to her tragic assassination by Japanese agents in 1895. The narrative captures both the intimate personal struggles within the royal court and the massive geopolitical upheavals that shaped modern Korean history.
