Engine follows Jiro Kanzaki, a former Formula One driver who returns to Japan after his racing team in Europe is dissolved. Struggling to find his place in the professional racing world again, he reluctantly takes a job as a driver for the 'Kaze no Oka' children's home, a facility run by his former mentor. Initially detached and cynical, Jiro finds himself challenged by the diverse group of children living there, each dealing with their own personal traumas and abandonment issues. As Jiro integrates into the life of the orphanage, he begins to confront his own past and the reasons behind his professional decline. The series explores themes of resilience, the importance of family, and the pursuit of dreams, as Jiro gradually transitions from a self-centered athlete to a mentor figure who helps the children find their own paths in life, all while rediscovering his own passion for racing.
