Satoru Fujinuma is a struggling manga artist who possesses an involuntary ability called 'Revival,' which sends him back in time moments before a life-threatening incident occurs, allowing him to prevent it. When his mother is brutally murdered in his own home, the shock triggers a massive Revival that thrusts Satoru 18 years back into the past, when he was an elementary school student. Realizing a connection between his mother's present-day murder and a string of serial kidnapping-murders of children that occurred in his hometown in 1988, Satoru takes it upon himself to change history. He must befriend Kayo Hinazuki, the first victim of the cold case, and protect his classmates from a cunning killer while navigating the psychological challenge of living as a child with the mind of an adult.
