Excel Saga

Overview

Excel Saga follows the chaotic and absurd adventures of Excel, a hyperactive and devoted operative of the secret organization Across. Led by the mysterious and sickly Lord Il Palazzo, Across aims to conquer the city of F City as a first step toward world domination. Excel is joined by her reluctant and sickly partner, Hyatt, as they attempt to carry out various bizarre missions, which almost always end in failure, destruction, and their own deaths. The series is a relentless parody of various anime genres, tropes, and pop culture, frequently breaking the fourth wall and shifting its tone from slapstick comedy to surrealist satire. As the series progresses, the narrative becomes increasingly meta, involving the creator of the manga, Koshi Rikudo, and the director of the anime, Shinichi Watanabe, as they struggle to maintain control over the increasingly unhinged production.
