FLCL

FLCL follows Naota Nandaba, an ordinary, cynical 12-year-old boy living in a seemingly mundane industrial town. His life is thoroughly upended by the sudden arrival of Haruko Haruhara, an erratic, Vespa-riding, bass guitar-wielding extraterrestrial investigator working for the Galactic Space Police Brotherhood. After accidentally running Naota over with her scooter and giving him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, Haruko strikes him on the head with her Rickenbacker guitar, unleashing giant mechanical robots from his forehead. As the series progresses, Naota is dragged into a bizarre, high-energy sci-fi conflict involving Medical Mechanica, a monolithic industrial conglomerate bent on reshaping the universe, and the enigmatic authorities trying to stop them. Blending frantic animation styles, surreal metaphors for puberty, and a critically acclaimed alternative rock soundtrack by The Pillows, the story serves as a chaotic, coming-of-age allegory for the emotional confusion, sexual awakening, and psychological growing pains of youth.
