Followers

Set in the hyper-connected, vibrant world of modern-day Tokyo, 'Followers' follows the intersecting lives of various women navigating the pressures of fame, success, and self-worth driven by social media. The story centers on Limi Nara, a successful, independent fashion photographer whose career is flying high, and Natsume Hyakuta, a struggling young aspiring actress trying to find her place in the relentless city. When a spontaneous photo posted by Limi catapults Natsume into overnight digital stardom, their fates become unexpectedly intertwined. As Natsume's follower count skyrockets, she is thrust into a dizzying whirlwind of privilege, superficiality, and sudden public scrutiny, forcing her to figure out who she truly is beneath the online persona. Meanwhile, Limi and her eclectic circle of friends—including writers, artists, and corporate moguls—grapple with their own personal crises, aging, and the relentless quest for validation in a society obsessed with image. Directed by Mika Ninagawa, the series offers a visually striking, neon-drenched critique and celebration of contemporary urban womanhood.
