Gabriel's Fire follows the story of Gabriel Bird, a former Chicago police officer who spent 22 years in prison for a crime he did not commit—killing his partner in self-defense. Upon his release, Bird struggles to reintegrate into a society that has moved on without him, finding himself alienated from his former life and his estranged daughter. Seeking redemption and a way to utilize his investigative skills, he begins working as a private investigator for Victoria Heller, a wealthy and sharp-witted attorney who takes on cases that the traditional legal system often overlooks. The series explores the complex dynamic between the hardened, cynical Bird and the sophisticated, idealistic Heller. Together, they navigate the gritty underbelly of Chicago, tackling cases that challenge their moral compasses and force them to confront their own pasts. As they solve crimes, Bird slowly begins to rebuild his shattered identity, proving that even after decades of injustice, one can still fight for the truth.
