Gaslit is a modern take on the Watergate scandal that focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of the event—from Nixon’s bumbling, opportunistic subordinates to the deranged zealots who aided and abetted their crimes, to the tragic whistleblowers who would eventually bring the whole rotten enterprise crashing down. The series centers on Martha Mitchell, a big personality with an even bigger mouth. A celebrity Arkansan socialite and wife to Nixon’s loyal Attorney General, John Mitchell, she is the first person to publicly sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate, despite her party affiliation. As the scandal unfolds, John Mitchell is forced to choose between Martha and the President, leading to a complex web of political maneuvering and personal betrayal.
