George and Mildred

George and Mildred is a classic British sitcom that follows the lives of the Ropers—George, a lazy, uncultured, and tight-fisted plumber's mate, and Mildred, his social-climbing, upwardly mobile wife who desperately wants to break into the middle class. A spin-off of the hit series Man About the House, the show kicks off when the couple is forced to move from their London flat to a modern suburban housing estate in Hampton due to compulsory purchase orders. The central comedic conflict arises from their starkly contrasting personalities and aspirations, combined with Mildred's snobbish, conservative landlord and neighbor, Jeffrey Fourmile. Jeffrey, an estate agent who looks down on George's working-class habits, constantly tries to keep the Ropers at arm's length, leading to endless social misunderstandings, awkward neighborhood dynamics, and domestic bickering between George and Mildred.
