Gintama: Porori-hen adapts various comedic, slice-of-life, and standalone manga chapters that were skipped during the more serious, plot-heavy arcs of the main series. Set in an alternate, alien-conquered Edo period, the story continues to follow the eccentric freelance odd-job worker (Yorozuya) Gintoki Sakata, along with his teenage companions Shinpachi Shimura and Kagura. Rather than focusing on the sweeping political rebellions or tragic backstories of the Joui Rebels, this season hones in on the series' signature brand of absurd humor, fourth-wall breaks, biting pop-culture satire, and endearing character interactions. From ridiculous misunderstandings and bizarre neighborhood contests to interactions with the Shinsengumi and the Kabuki District's colorful cast of outcasts, the series delivers rapid-fire comedy without losing the heart of its beloved characters.
