Great Expectations is a 2023 television miniseries adaptation of Charles Dickens' classic novel, written and executive produced by Steven Knight. The story follows Pip, an orphan who yearns for a greater destiny, as he navigates the harsh realities of 19th-century England. His life is irrevocably changed after a chance encounter with the wealthy, eccentric, and vengeful Miss Havisham and her beautiful but cold-hearted ward, Estella. As Pip enters the world of the London elite, he must grapple with the moral consequences of his newfound wealth and the mysterious identity of his secret benefactor. The series delves into themes of class struggle, unrequited love, and the corrupting nature of ambition, presenting a grittier, more visceral interpretation of the source material than previous adaptations.
