Set in a dystopian 2039 Tokyo, the story follows Shu Ouma, an antisocial high school student who gains the 'Power of Kings' after a chance encounter with Inori Yuzuriha, a member of the resistance group known as Funeral Parlor. This power allows him to extract 'Voids'—physical manifestations of a person's heart or personality—from others, which he must use to fight against the GHQ, a quasi-military organization that has occupied Japan following the outbreak of the 'Lost Christmas' virus. As Shu is thrust into the center of a global conspiracy, he must navigate the moral complexities of war, the burden of leadership, and the mysterious origins of the Apocalypse Virus. The series explores themes of identity, sacrifice, and the weight of power as Shu struggles to protect those he loves while facing the dark reality of his own destiny and the true nature of the crown he has been forced to bear.
