Set against the backdrop of Japan's turbulent eras from the Meiji period to the post-World War II years, "Hanako and Anne" tells the inspiring life story of Muraoka Hanako, the pioneering translator who first introduced L.M. Montgomery's classic novel *Anne of Green Gables* to Japanese readers. Born into a poor farming family, Hanako secures an education at a prestigious missionary school in Tokyo, where she discovers a profound love for English literature and forms lifelong friendships. Despite facing poverty, personal tragedy, and the devastating impact of war, she perseveres through her passion for words, ultimately providing solace and hope to a generation of Japanese children through her timeless translation work.
