Higurashi: When They Cry - GOU follows Keiichi Maebara as he moves to the peaceful rural village of Hinamizawa in the summer of 1983, quickly befriending his new classmates Rena, Mion, Satoko, and Rika. However, beneath the town's idyllic surface lies a dark history tied to an annual festival marked by mysterious murders and disappearances known as the 'Oyakashi's curse'. While the series initially appears to retell familiar events from the original timeline, it soon subverts expectations, revealing a twisted new labyrinth of psychological horror, paranoia, and time-looping tragedy where Rika must once again fight to break the endless cycle of despair.
