Hinomaru Sumo follows the story of Hinomaru Ushio, a talented young wrestler who is physically undersized for the sport of sumo. Despite his lack of height and weight, which are traditionally essential for success in the ring, Ushio is determined to reach the pinnacle of professional sumo, the rank of Yokozuna. He joins the struggling sumo club at Dachi High School, where he inspires a group of misfits to pursue their dreams and compete in the national high school tournaments. As the team grows, they face intense rivalries, grueling training, and the harsh realities of a sport that favors size over technique. The series explores themes of perseverance, friendship, and the spirit of competition, as Ushio and his teammates strive to prove that heart and skill can overcome physical limitations. Through their journey, they encounter formidable opponents and learn the true meaning of the 'Way of the Sumo.'
