Infamy follows the story of Gita, a teenage girl of Romani descent who returns to her native Poland after years of living in the United Kingdom. Struggling to find her place in two vastly different worlds, Gita attempts to balance the traditional, strict expectations of her Romani family with the modern, rebellious lifestyle of her peers. As she navigates the complexities of adolescence, she discovers a passion for hip-hop music, which becomes her primary outlet for self-expression and rebellion. The series delves into themes of cultural identity, generational conflict, and the search for autonomy. As Gita pushes against the rigid boundaries set by her community—including an impending arranged marriage—she faces intense pressure and the threat of being ostracized.
