Overview

Initial D follows the story of Takumi Fujiwara, an unassuming high school student who works as a gas station attendant and delivers tofu for his father's shop in the early hours of the morning. Through years of driving his father's Toyota Sprinter Trueno AE86 up and down the treacherous Mount Akina, Takumi has inadvertently developed world-class drifting skills and an intimate knowledge of the mountain's winding roads. His life changes when he is pulled into the world of illegal street racing after defeating a local racing team's ace. As Takumi begins to compete against increasingly skilled opponents from across the Kanto region, he must navigate the pressures of the racing scene, his own evolving passion for driving, and the legacy of his father, Bunta Fujiwara, a legendary former street racer. The series is renowned for its focus on the technical aspects of car tuning and the physics of drifting.
