The story follows Yurine Hanazono, a gothic lolita college student who successfully summons Jashin-chan, a lamia from the underworld. Unable to return to Hell on her own, Jashin-chan is forced to live in Yurine's cramped apartment in Jinbocho, Tokyo. The only way for Jashin-chan to return home is to kill Yurine, leading to a series of slapstick attempts where the demon constantly tries to assassinate her summoner, only to be brutally defeated and punished by Yurine every time. As the series progresses, the duo is joined by a colorful cast of characters, including angels, other demons, and eccentric humans. The show is known for its dark humor, frequent gore that is played for laughs, and the chaotic, often dysfunctional relationship between the immortal Jashin-chan and the surprisingly powerful Yurine. Despite the constant violence, the characters often find themselves navigating mundane daily life, creating a unique blend of supernatural fantasy and slice-of-life comedy.
