Jews of the Caribbean

"Jews of the Caribbean" is a fascinating documentary series that explores the rich, centuries-old history of Jewish communities in the Caribbean. The series delves into the untold stories of Sephardic Jews who fled the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions, finding refuge in islands such as Jamaica, Curaçao, Barbados, and St. Thomas. Through historical accounts, expert interviews, and stunning cinematography, the show uncovers how these resilient settlers established the oldest continuous synagogues in the Western Hemisphere, shaped local economies, and blended their traditions with Caribbean culture. The narrative follows historians, genealogists, and descendants as they piece together forgotten archives, trade routes, and personal legacies. Major themes include religious freedom, maritime trade, colonialism, and cultural identity. The conflict between preserving ancient European-Sephardic traditions while adapting to tropical realities forms the emotional and historical core of the series, revealing a unique cultural mosaic that has endured for over four centuries.
