Justice League of America is a 1997 television pilot produced for CBS that serves as a live-action adaptation of the DC Comics superhero team. Set in the fictional city of New Metro, the story follows a group of disparate heroes who are brought together to defend the city from a weather-controlling terrorist known as The Weatherman. The team consists of members with varying power sets, including Ice, Fire, The Flash, Green Lantern, The Atom, and Martian Manhunter, who must learn to overcome their personal differences and work as a cohesive unit to save the world. The pilot focuses on the interpersonal dynamics and the challenges of balancing civilian lives with superhero responsibilities. As the team faces the threat of a catastrophic climate-based attack, they must navigate internal conflicts and the skepticism of the public. Despite its ambitious premise, the project is widely remembered for its low-budget production values and significant departures from the source material, ultimately failing to be picked up as a full series.
