Kamen Rider Ryuki follows Shinji Kido, a naive journalist who discovers a mysterious Advent Card deck that allows him to transform into Kamen Rider Ryuki. He is thrust into a deadly battle royale orchestrated by the enigmatic Shiro Kanzaki, where thirteen Riders must fight to the death in the Mirror World. The winner is granted a single wish, but the cost is the destruction of the other participants. As Shinji attempts to stop the senseless killing and protect innocent civilians from Mirror Monsters, he forms a complex alliance with Ren Akiyama (Kamen Rider Knight), a cynical man fighting to save his comatose fiancée. The series is renowned for its dark, mature themes, moral ambiguity, and the psychological toll the battle takes on its participants, subverting traditional superhero tropes by focusing on the conflicting motivations of the Riders.
