Lewis

Set against the backdrop of the historic university town of Oxford, 'Lewis' follows Detective Inspector Robert Lewis, the former right-hand man of the legendary Inspector Morse. Following the tragic death of his wife in a hit-and-run and a prolonged hiatus working overseas, Lewis returns to Oxford police to rebuild his life and career, finding himself reluctantly paired with a cerebral younger partner, Detective Sergeant James Hathaway. Hathaway, an intensely private, chain-smoking former theology student who abandoned his priesthood studies, provides an intellectual and esoteric counterbalance to Lewis's grounded, pragmatic detective instincts. Together, under the watchful and demanding eye of Chief Superintendent Jean Innocent, the duo investigates complex and high-profile homicides that cut across both the prestigious academic cloisters and the ordinary working-class enclaves of Oxford. Throughout nine seasons, the series explores themes of grief, intellectual hubris, faith, and reconciliation. As Lewis confronts the shadow of Morse's legacy and finds new romance with forensic pathologist Dr. Laura Hobson, the partnership between Lewis and Hathaway deepens from uneasy colleagues into a bond of profound mutual respect, navigating the intricate labyrinths of academic ambition and lethal secrets.
