Set in 1946, the series follows David Gotsman, a high-ranking officer in the Odessa Criminal Investigation Department, as he struggles to maintain order in a city ravaged by post-World War II chaos. Odessa is plagued by a wave of violent crimes committed by a mysterious and well-organized gang of former soldiers and criminals, who are stealing military supplies and terrorizing the local population. As Gotsman delves deeper into the investigation, he uncovers a complex web of conspiracy involving high-ranking military officials and a shadowy figure known as 'The Academic.' The series masterfully blends historical drama with noir-inspired detective work, capturing the gritty atmosphere of the Soviet Union's reconstruction era while exploring themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the moral ambiguity of survival in a broken society.
