Set against the backdrop of the late 1980s bubble economy in Tokyo, 'Love in Your Arms' (Dakishimetai!) follows the lives of two best friends, Natsuko and Asako. Natsuko is a successful, career-driven fashion stylist, while Asako is a charming, somewhat naive woman who navigates the complexities of romance and social status. Their friendship is tested as they encounter various romantic entanglements, professional challenges, and the shifting societal expectations of women in Japan. The series is widely considered a landmark in Japanese television, credited with popularizing the 'trendy drama' genre. It captures the vibrant, consumerist atmosphere of the era while focusing on the genuine emotional struggles of its protagonists. As the characters navigate their personal growth, the show explores themes of independence, loyalty, and the pursuit of happiness in an rapidly changing urban landscape.
